Covid Pandemic and ETC...

So your Ancestor created you before sub-coming to a Pandemic.

That's great because here you are.  There are still babies being created and born here in Covid-19 times.   How many of them will remember the pandemic Covid-19 and pass the lessons learned to the New Generations?

We can be sure most likely we will not be around.  Write in your journals.  Keep your story going.

With DNA comes your Haplo Group.

Your origins tru the oldest female lines.
Girls and Women only carry their Mothers.  It is continuously passed on through the generations.  Mother to daughter, Mother to son.

A Man will never pass his Mothers Haplo group on to his children.

Curious how the children of Israel state that they are Jewish through their mother.

No just because it says your 33% of ______you fill in the blank. does not mean your adopted.
Almost like finding out you blood type.

But then Why does your DNA not validate your Paper Tree?

Oh No! Cause there's a secret some where
in your tree.

Did anyone?
 What about the great "Grandmother"?

You may need to ponder for some time as to what to Do.

You can keep it to yourself.  Why not?

Perhaps it was not a Dragon that needed slaying but it was the mans rival who made off with his intended wife.  While unbeknownst to him she was already with child.  No calenders to keep the dates straight for most, so when the child came he just assumed it was his.

Our mothers from ancient days till the one who birthed us.
They all had their role in furthering  the Generations.
Bringing us to who we are today.
We can always be be assured of her direct maternal line.
So maybe that s why in some cultures you are only related on your mothers side.

You have some new choices to make.
 Proceed with caution.
To me you are still your fathers son or daughter he raised you, or your male ancestor raised another of your ancestors.
You belong to those that you knew as your Family.

Hey since only you know,  well then the secret can stay with you.  You may want to leave a nice long explanation for further generations to understand why you left it alone.
So you can now rest no pressure.
If you so choose to seek out those you are DNA related to.
Do so with caution.
You may learn some things you may not have ever wanted to know.

DNA discoveries to or not to?

Henry Sylvestre brief history Part 1

My Granddad, Henry Sylvestre
Henry Sylvester, Detroit, French Families of Detroit
was born in 1905 in the Copper County of Michigan.
Copper county, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, Ancestors born there
Which is in the Keenewa Pennisula.  With Lake Superior all around it.  I am cold just thinking about that landscape in winter.
The Place of birth is given as Atlantic Mines.
Copper Mining in Michigan, Copper Mining, Dangerous jobs, Ancestors, Family history, Family Lore, Pasties - lunch

It is in Adams Township.  Calumet, MI is about 16 miles to the north. I just found out a book discussing the Copper mining in Michigan and how so many were drawn to the region for employment.
"Copper Range Chronicle: A Family and an Era" its by Anita Andreini Ahearn - 2003
I see it can be purchased through Barnes & Nobles.

Now back to Henry, he was of French Canadien decent.

Both his mom and dad were born in Quebec.

Both great Grandparents moved on over to Copper Country for their chance at a different life.

As always these emigrating families are on the move after a generation or 2.

Then for what ever reason possible higher wages my granddad moved down to the Lower Peninsula to work for GM.

Need a Professional Genealogist

Official summer season has begun with Memorial Day past.  Schools are soon to let out.  So by mid June its time to pack the overnighter and head on off to where every I need on the ground research.
My youngest sister was planning a trip on over to Ontario to investigate David Putman’s when her son finished his school year.  It now taken a back burner with our mom hospitalized and every one taking turns to be there for her & to help communicate with the Doctors for her care. So Life Happens!  Ancestors get to wait longer now.
So if you can’t go like my family situation but you still have that strong drive to further your research what to do you say?  Looks like a professional genealogist could help you out.  Why not look em up?
You say where do I find a Professional Genealogist?
1.   Local genealogy society chapter.  Google search it, get recommendations on who you are considering.
2.   Local phone book, again you will want recommendations for that person.
3.   Google search your with specific parameters for the kind of research you want done.
4.   Ask other family researchers who they know of who might be able to assist you.

What do you do in the summer time?   Genealogy!!!

Genetics and Generations

In my family history on my paternal maternal line I have a very big mystery.
A mystery as to why generation after generation women die from indirectly or directly from Cervical Cancer.
I am certain of 3 generations who had that fate.  4 generations if the last had the same fate.
How much further back does this genetic death sentence make a stand?
My fathers sister  is in her early 70’s has no sign of Cervical or other cancers.  How did the cervical cancer chain stop?
I search on line for studies of such large proportions of family demise in cervical cancer.  I have yet to find anything published.  No answers there.
My grandmother had cervical cancer.  She had surgery which removed her cervix and of course she could no longer bear children.  20 years later the cancer manifested itself in a different way and took her life.  Grandma did have my father and my aunt, 2 children.
Her mother also had only 2 children her and her half brother.
So like her daughter she too had cervical cancer and only 2 children.
No surgery to remove the cancer so instead she died young.

women, cervical cancer, generations, cancer of the womb, uterus cancer, how many women in a family

There is still the next further back generation where again womb cancer is the cause of my 2nd great grandmother death.
She too had 2 children & early death.  How ever her parentage is unknown.  She was adopted into a family.  In her adopted family the women had long life.
Not one suffering from female cancers.  ** special note, not only did her daughter die of cervical cancer but her son also died and early death.  His death certificate says La Grippe.   I believe La Grippe was a general death diagnosis, very broad and very general.   My question is did he also have a fast growing cancer?  Could he of had prostrate cancer?  My grandma this is why I look for studies.  Can a mother pass on such things to her son as well?
Finding out about my 2nd great grandmother is a total unknown.   The only thing left after the paper trail is a story that Mrs.  Trueblood brought her to Garden Michigan as a graddaughter.  As I dig around the Trueblood family I do not see where she was a grandchild of hers.
To me my Hypotheses is that  Mrs. Trueblood was attending/ or had attended  a birth, perhaps as a midwife, of my 2nd great grandmothers mother.  She must have trusted Mrs. Trueblood and had no other  family/friends to turn to.  Was this unknown 3rd great grandmother of mine also afflicted with Cervical/womb cancer?  Dying and thinking of her daughter.

To my 3rd Great grandmother,  you made sure
women, cervical cancer, generations, cancer of the womb, uterus cancer, how many women in a family
your daughter went to a good home.  You were able to die in some comfort with that knowledge.
How complex our Ancestors lives were.  The complexity comes to light ever time we take the time to bring our understanding of what their life must have been like.  With our modern medicine we can probably say why didn’t they solve their medical issues easily?  However we cannot generalize our ancestors lives.
Every generations is so different from the one before it or after it. Which makes every life so intricite.   How I long to answer my questions about my 3rd great grandmother.
To reach further into her past and find out just who she was as well as whom her co-creator of her daughter is?
If you come across cancer studies in this area of expertise please refer me to them.

“Finding Your Roots” , “African Ancestry.com” & “Who Do You Think You Are?”

Amazing views into who our ancestors are.  How lucky we are to live in a time when Genealogy is so popular and so welcomed.    Do you feel a boost to be able to discuss genealogy where ever you go now?

This weekend I was working at a scrapbooking conference.   We had a box for names & email address.  I noticed many of the names as they were filled out.  I commented on a gal with the last name of May.  She had some knowledge into the name.  To me I thought it was shorten from the name “LeMay” of  Quebec fame.  However she informed me that the name “May” is from the Mc Donald clan. It was fun to hear of her knowledge.

I was so excited when on “Finding Your Roots”  they spoke with the creator of  “African Ancestry.com”.   How cool is that that if you have African Heritage you can pinpoint exactly where and which family group you came from in Africa with DNA test.  Just a cheek swab.

My dad had his Maternal line DNA tested a couple of years ago.  This line is his mothers, mother, mothers line  all the way back 10,000 years.  It let us know the Halo-group and where the origin of where the original mother geographical home land was.   It was really cool.  I was looking for a shorter time period of 300 years.  I was looking to prove or disprove one of my theories.

The reason the African Ancestry.com test is so accurate is that they went to Africa where they tested & sequenced many of the different African kinship groups.  They produced a large data base.  How lucky the creator had figured out a way to produce such results of geographical accuracy by having a large data base to start.

So now I say to my self if only these other companies would do the same so that we non-African descended people should be able to find out closes ties to our ancestors then 10,000 years.  I know I would like a 300-400 year window of the ancestors too.  Especially since my 2nd great was adopted.

On “Who do you think you are”  Rob Lowe made such a astounding finds.  I was enthralled with each phase of his discoveries.  It is intriguing to know that the DAR & SAR have such a vast collection of Genealogy information.  I never knew they had such sources at the finger tips.

My story is, if you have read my other post concerning my discoveries some of this might be a repeat, I knew I was French Canadian, Irish, Dutch, Belgian & French Canadian Indian.   I never suspected I had ties to 1. The Civil War & 2. To the Revolutionary War.  In 2008 I set about my fathers mothers fathers lines.  Oh what a load of insight I carry with me now.

The Civil War was a part of my Ancestors lives.  My 3rd Great Granddad Simeon Caryl served in the Civil War.  As well as his first cousins, sons of Simeon Caryl fathers brother Russel Carroll,  Grant Carroll & Obed J. Carroll of Lynn, MA.  Both of these cousins died in Andersonville Prison.  There may have been another of the brothers to have also perish in the same way.

Once I was knee deep in these New England lines and I was paying attention to dates of birth and death of my male ancestors I then began to think oh maybe I do have a Revolutionary War member.  Into several lines of the Caryl line I have several but since I cannot prove Joel Caryl as the father of Simeon Caryl I cannot prove them for a DAR membership.

I do however have many other ancestors back in the Babbitt line to give me a chance at the DAR.
To me it’s great to know that I do have great heritage in the United States.  That I am a descendant of Patriots.

What Patriots have you discovered in your research?

DNA  bringing you your family connection.  As seen on Who Do You Think You Are!  Lucky for Blair Underwood as seen on Who DO You Think You are last night.  Looks to me like all families need one Female test done and one Male test done.  Build that Data Base.  How much quicker we could all find each other if that was done.

DNA companies needs a sale.  Sell the kits halp price who much quicker the data base for connection could be made.

Yea for Who Do You Think You Are !

Genealogy for Everyone !!!

Family History is for everyone.  Now some of us like myself take it to an obession level.  Which is both positive and negative.   Of course we all like to focus on the positive side of the genealogy coin.

I have been into Family History for over 25 years.  It was not a daily event until a few years ago. A few years ago is when I discovered all the beauty that Ancestry.com had to offer.  Plus a few months before I had had my family history restored to computer format.  Like so many of us experiencing computer crashes.  * POOF *  goes the genealogy.  I was most fortunate that a dear friend of mine was willing to reenter what I had on paper.  She then followed one Line which I scarsely knew about back into England during the Dark Ages.   Wow  I was most defiently on the hunt then.  What an endorphine releaser.

I believe everyone has a story.   This week on "Who Do You Think You Are"  will have Martin Sheen on the program.  In which he says something to the effect about his family history being like something from a book.   Well all of lifes stories do belong in a book.  We each have our own personal story to tell.

We all have so make diffrent ancestors [refer to my December post on how many ancestors took to make you] to find out about which gives us our own personal journey.  A journey of where our Ancestors original came from, how many generations stayed in one location, where they moved to, how often they moved, did they leave their names listed in Goverment documents, All way to where you were born.  Personally I have never felt connection to my home town.  Not sure if its because both of my parents were born in different parts of the state.  Or what it was.  I have grandparents buried in the local cemetery.  But no Great Granparents.  To me I have always wondered what it was to live in a town where you know your ancestors have been there for more then 4 generations?

I have no such experience.  My ancestors as it seems where always of  to a new frontier.  How long did the forefathers in the Old World long to expand their space.  They have certainly fulfilled that in the wide open space of the New World.  My French & Native American lines to me were the most root growing families.  However my northern european/ netherlands & Basque ancestors had expansion and adventure in their blood.

To just know that in many Asian cultures knowing who their ancestors are is of most importance.  They have a wonderful system of not forgetting who they are or where they came from.  I know wars have changed much of it for some.

Then their are other cultures on the other end of the spectrum where they are forgotten once dead.  Where do you see your self fitting in there?  Since I am not Asian or of other Ancestoral worshipping cultures I have been fortunate to have a natural curisoity  into who I am and who are all these folks that brought me into this world.

Finding those extended family members that may have information you need or Great old Family Photos

My research would not be where it is if it was not for distant Cousins, Siblings, Parents, Aunts & Uncles.  In your research for your family history make sure to include all know relatives.  Especially those that married into the family since they will have a different perspective of the family.  They will be more likely to spill the beans on the family versus a family member who is protecting the "Families Good Name".  Normally family members are much less likely to include the mistakes of the more recent generations.  Some may admit to follies of a more distant generation.  Then most will be tight lipped about any thing within their own family.

If finding a married-in member who will talk about what they know about the paticular family is difficult. I suggest tring newspapers and court records.  Of course when you know which municipilaty to look in.

Then a way I have acculimated info. for distant relatives I have found Google most inspiring.  A big plus is that is is free.  Serendipity is what I have found by looking for a certain person I never found out about them, what is revealed to me is about someone else in the family.  Such as in Google Images enter in a name. You may or may not see a photo of them.  I have found Grave Markers this way.  Sometimes from various Cemetery web sites, within GenWeb, or Find A Grave.

On one such occasion I entered in a Family name photos of Grave Markers along with all the non related photos showed up.  I clicked on the photo of the Grave Marker it then brought me to the web site where the photo had been posted.  It was within a GenWeb cemetery site.  There it listed who had submitted the photo.  I was able to find their email address.  I then contacted them regarding their efforts.  Voile do you know he went on to share much info & photos of my 2nd & 3rd great grandparents.  It was such a great windfall.  I am most fortunate to have those photos now [copies anyway].

Google has such great potential to help in your Family Research.  Use it, & reuse it.  I have had days when I entered in a name [not looking for photos] nothing came up that day. I then retried the following day still maybe nothing.  Then by the 4th or 5th time I then may have had a hit.  So if you do not have success the first time.  Do Not give up try agagin and again.

Movement in the 1700-1800's 4 the DuSyl Ancestors

Check out how many times some ancestors moved mostly East to the West.

Example my Caryl family line.  Of course the first came over from England.  Landed in Massachusetts. Moved around a bit.
Then much more with the Minister Benjamin Caryl.  Then a few  sons &cousins moved up to Vermont.  From Vermont his decendants went to New York and Ohio [Lydia married Mr. Mastick] Some even went back to Lynn Massachusetts.

My line came out of Vermont then into New York for  generation then over into Michigan in the mid 1800's.

Would you like to see the migration patterns for your Ancestros  Using Family Tree Maker when connected to the internet you are able to map out one individual life on the maps.

What a great tool to learn even more about your family.

DNA DNA DNA DNA DNA DNA DNA in DuSyl lines

Another day to add more thoughts and info.

We all know of those family members that roll their eyes when Genealogy/Family History is mentioned.  So just maybe they don't get how their very life depended on those that came before.

So if you haven't checked out my generations chart you might like a peek at it now.  An opening line could be:
"It took over 1 million ancestors to make me"  Will this get them thinking hey what about me  it is really that many?

Who knows it just might the right juice to get them involved.  Let me know if you have success with this idea.

New way of Thinking of the Ancestors Get to those Family Reunions

One fun thing about doing Genealogy is finding Cousins you did not know existed.

It is such a pleasure to find cousins.  They can be so helpful.

Cause what you learned from your parents or grandparents about your family can be confirmed or added on to from those cousins.

DNA, DNA Family, Family History, Family Lore

For example the Putman line in my family as far as my Dad & Aunt knew no county of origin was even ever discussed.

So tada enter in a new cousin now he knew from his dad that the Putman's are Dutch.  Well thats a great way to help me out.  So no more searching through the Putnam English lines.

Cause I know I have been looking in the Ontario Dutch lines to figure where My David Putman fits in.
