Genealogy on TV now on You Tube

So now that the seasons of “Who Do You Think You Are” and “Finding Your Roots” is over.  Cry Rant Cry some more especially since WDYTYA is cancelled by NBC.  Where do you look for more of that great genealogy expertise? 

Check out You Tube:  search for “Faces OF America” and “Black In America”  both of these excellent programs are genealogy based.  From the same great man that brought  us “Finding Your Roots “    Henry Lois Gates Jr. these are also his brain children.

We can all benefit from these genealogy programs.  After watching the first Finding your roots I was awe inspired since I felt like I had been to a genealogy Conference.  So excellently done.  All tru the season I found more information I could use in my research.  I hope you found that too.

My daughter found more of Henry Louis Gates Jr. programs on you tube.  Of couse I have watched them too.  Amazing amazing ways to further the genealogy work of many.

Who Do I Think I Am?

Do you find yourself asking that question since the Ancestry.com & NBC show started?  

The more I do my own family research the more I know about my families Origins.  I gain a greater understanding  into all that goes in to the current generations.

I will say I try to scrapbook,  So the page listed in the side bar here where I have the Names Beauder dit DuCap 1931 Putman well now that’s the year Clifford married Etta.  Then Spegel 1929 & Sylvestre that’s when Henry married Teresa.

They are my grandparents.  Some could say they started it all did they?  NO! they they didn’t it began long, long ago. But my grandparents were the exact Generation of  the right time.  Family flows one generation to the next.  Mostly in smooth patterns, Boy meets Girl, Love & marriage then children.  Next grandchildren on & on etc…

So who am I ?  I am me first, then I am a daughter, & a mother.  Then to look into where I came from?  Is it the town I grew up in?  Or is it where my ancestors laid roots?  For me, my mom was born in Essexville, then moved to Flint, then out to Davison.  But neither of  her parents were from there.  They moved way out of the city.  Even past the burbs.  My dad well like my mom  was not from the area either. 

I am so glad the great shows “Who Do You Think You Are”, “Finding Your Roots” “Faces Of America” & the mini series “Roots”  have excitied so many more people to find out more about themselves and their ancestors.

Never Give Up in Your Research

By never giving up you are endeavoring to bring about the real truth of your Family history.  Was Reba McIntire lucky or what.  All the great Genealogist & Historians helping her out.  If we all could have such help.  Probably 80% of us of European heritage would know exactly who we are even without DNA testing.

For example in my family lines.  I have French Ancestors that left France went over to the New World.  Every generation is documented along the way.  I have read several books containing this valuable information.    Once I was able to piece the back way generation with the forward generation Voila I had them. [ By the way it took a cousin John Baudet of NJ to direct me.  Thank goodness for cousins, does not matter how many times removed, yea Cousins.]  The way John found me, of course this is well before GenForum & Message boards, was by a LDS service where I sent in a small form that contained a Female ancestor name.  Along with my contact information.

I had not given up it was just a few years of waiting.  I have also had much luck with the message boards.  Have you!  You won't unless you add your information your seeking to a board.  These services are free. You can even have a email sent when there is a new post to that particular board.  by all means read through the instructions to see if you need to create a new board for the particular family name.

I started a board for a client.  It is a difficult challenge to find information when your not able to go in person.
The board is less then a year old.  It has connected some other cousins with each other.  But the search is still on for verifiable information.  As well as someone knowledgeable to help in the search.  I just know when the right person reads the post they will get back to me quickly.  The answer will be there.

I know theses days with the computer we can easily fill in a family tree in a day.  But we all know of the Brick Walls.  One thing I tell myself is that there is someone out there with that piece of info.  When will they contact me & pass it off to me?

Going forward in genealogy allows you to time travel.

DNA  bringing you your family connection.  As seen on Who Do You Think You Are!  Lucky for Blair Underwood as seen on Who DO You Think You are last night.  Looks to me like all families need one Female test done and one Male test done.  Build that Data Base.  How much quicker we could all find each other if that was done.

   DNA companies needs a sale.  Sell the kits halp price who much quicker the data base for connection could be made.
