PUTMAN Found

It takes two to yes !

My ancestor David Putman born 1 March 1783 in New York State has been found to have parents.  From New York State.  He was not a loyalist.  He arrived in Ontario way after the USA Revolution War.  His arrival was around 1806.
Yep My sister and I have concurred on his parents.

The reveal to come very soon.

Name changes

Can we guess or hypothesis how a name like Van Valkenburg morps into the name of Vollick?

If you follow me for a few moments you just might learn as I go along.

Butler Rangers, New York, Rangers, VanValkenburg, Vollick, Isaac, Hainer, Putman
My ancestors  Isaac Van Valkenburg was born 1732 in Schoharie New York.

Yet he died 1804 in Lincoln, Ontario.
Butler Rangers, New York, Rangers, VanValkenburg, Vollick, Isaac, Hainer, Putman

Please note the date birth 1732.  Why is this significant?

Butler Rangers, New York, Rangers, VanValkenburg, Vollick, Isaac, Hainer, Putman
The Revolutiony War of 1776 makes it significant. All since Isaac is appx. 44 yrs. old he's from the area of New York.  The group known as the Butler Rangers, who became know as "Loyalist", were on the Crowns [England] side.  They fought against the Minute Men.

By wars end they were not welcome in their hometowns any more.  England promised them land & provisions up in Canada.

So what does a man & his family do when offered land not only for him self but also for his children do?  He went!  Why stay where your neighbors really do not like you at all anymore?

So Isaac Van Valkenburg with other fellow Loyalist and their families left for the lands west of Black Rock New York over the Niagara River to Canada West.

So we still have not seen where the name morphing occured.  Here we go [personally I'm still scratching my head] /

Isaac had a wife and children that included:

In my studing the data I summize that with the moving to Canada & being Loyalist that perhaps he further thought the name should be different.

What of the Van Valkenburgs that did not become Loyalist and stayed in New York.  Was all family ties broken with the War?

I know I may have frustrated some of you since I do not have a definitive answer as to why the name changed from Van Velkenburg to Vollick.  I am sorry.  Please relize in genealogy we the descendants cannot know their minds.

What theory might you have as to why names change???

Updated New Info for Dora Putman is she the daughter of John & Marilla Putman

Have you found something strange in your research of your family history?
Like when I found a marriage record showing a daughter that there is no other record for.

Its all in regards to Dora Donelson father name is here as John Putman mother is Marilla F Cook.

Her daughter Mrs Pearl Sterns & possibly her son Ormond Donelson stood up for them for the wedding.

Who is Dora Putman born in 1861 or 1862 in Michigan. Is she a late born daughter of John & Marilla Putman?  Who married John Donelson and moved to the west side of the state? As well married George Wallace

So many questions unanswered.

Part #2

My sissy found a marriage certificate for a marriage of a Dorathea Putman & John Donelson inUnionville, Tuscola County.

A Putman Family Quandary

A Putman Family Quandary

Using Family Search I found a Dora Putman/Dolenson, on her marriage record in 1903 to George Wallace, with her parents listed as John Putman & Marilla Cooke.  I have not found a birth record for a Dora Putman born to a John Putman & Marilla Cooke.  Do you know who this Dora Putman is?

I also found Dora Putman in the 1880 census in Ionia Michigan working as a servant.  Her daughter Pearl Putman is also living in the Wallace household.
If Dora is not a daughter of John & Marilla Putman then why would she have put them as her parents on the Marriage certificate?

On the above mentioned marriage certificate the witnesses of the marriage are a Mrs Pearl Stearns & Ormond Donelson.
If you can help with this Putman Quandary please do.
The comment section at the bottom of this post will do.

Putman Family Line

Putman genealogy of David Putman & wife Dorothy Hainer

Many Putman descendants have been working to find a conclusive answer for David’s origins.  Many have thought they have found the correct parents, then their way of seeing it is dashed when a piece of evidence let them know they have to begin again.  UGGGHHHH  I know we all feel the Pain.

I am here to of course keep inspiring all of us to keep looking for that answer.

I do not have an answer yet.  Well if you are a male directly  descended from our said David Putman.  Which means you your dad and his dad & his dad & his dad& his dad gets you directly linked to David. [ All men with direct links & last names of Putman.]  Would you be willing to take the Y-DNA test.  That would help all of us out.
So if your fathers line is from David & Dorothys sons lines and you carry the Putman name from your father.  Well you can do a cheek swab.

Strategies to break down the Brick Wall

What to do when you have gone everywhere possible that you can think of?

1. Ask a librarian that your familiar with where they would look for more clues if they were you.

2. If you have not yet searched data bases on-line do so, which includes a Google  search, name of person & birth date ie... Daid Putman b. 1783

3. Have you gone to the local town/city library where your brick wall was born, married or died ?

4. Looking through land records might also be in your favor.

5. What about Probate records  there could be a will etc...

6. Newpapers.

7. Ask your family members again if they remember any stories about the family history.

8. Reread your Research, documents etc...

9. Have you looked for your same generation/ or older-younger cousins who might also be searching your same family line.

10,  Ask a contemporary to ask questions of you it might help you to find something you have not asked yourself yet.
